Anndrea Hermann was first introduced and provided an update on current legislation regarding hemp. Two stand-alone industrial hemp bills have been introduced in the 113th Congress so far.H.R. 525, the “Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2013,” was introduced in the U.S. House on February 6, 2013. A companion bill, S. 359, was introduced in the U.S. Senate on February 14, 2013. The bills define industrial hemp, exclude it from the definition of “marihuana” in the Controlled Substances Act, and gives states the exclusive authority to regulate the growing and processing of industrial hemp under state law.

She also shared about the hemp industry and how its poised to help the environment and consumers alike by providing a wide range of hemp-based food and consumer products. The Hemp Industry Association forecasts a 2015 sales f hemp products to reach 620 million dollars with 200 million of that coming from hemp food products and the remaining 420 million coming from consumer products made from hemp.

Bruce Perlowin is the CEO the first publicly traded company focused on educating the public about hemp and bringing hemp related products to market. A company frequently featured on news outlets like Bloomberg and others. Perlowin was introduced and asked his opinion on why public perception regarding hemp has changed. He said people now have access to good information about hemp and are no longer susceptible to the movies and propaganda of old. He went on to share his experience from being the largest smuggler in America to the CEO of the first publicly traded company focused on hemp and how all of it fits in with his passion of helping humanity through what he calls his “Triple Bottom line philosophy.

Perlowin went on to describe the opportunity in the hemp financial sector and how Hemp Inc’s 70,000 foot processing plant in North Carolina is poised to be the dominant player when it comes to processing hemp. Currently, Hemp Inc is the only company in North America with a Tamafa Decorticator, the largest equipment made to process hemp. He also shared plans to acquire or create smaller decorticators that could be moved around to country to process hemp.

Bruce Perlowin and Anndrea Hermann talked about hemcrete houses. Perlowin is creating a sustainable community 4,500-acre eco-village and wants to build hemcrete houses and Hermann is the President of Hemp Technologies a company that sources hemp, hemp supplies and experts that work with hemp.

The show finished with a discussion on what consumers will notice when hemp is legal to grow in the United States, the latest research and status of hemp products made with CBD’s and letting listeners know about a new course on Industrial Hemp being offered by Oregon State University.
